Kung fu Texas-style

Kung fu Texas-style...well, it's really not different from traditional kung fu, but everything's bigger in Texas! At the Pai Lum Tao academy in League City, Texas, you will learn basically everything you need to know about kung fu.

And you'll get it as good as anything ever gotten in Texas.

They do more than just kung fu, though. They also teach kenpo and tai chi. There's nothing like a little bit of variety, and you know that you can always get that in Texas, too. Texas kung fu has probably got just a little bit of Southern kick to it, too. Maybe the chief instructors wear ten-gallon hats...or maybe you can get an extra side of the Bush secret recipe beans to go with your lessons. Heck, it's Texas-you can probably get both!

Pai Lum Tao represents the south-western branch of the White Dragon Warriors Society, Inc.

There are two different "divisions" in kung fu: Northern and Southern. The northern puts a lot of emphasis on the kicking techniques. It is believed to have originated at the Hunan Temple. On the other hand, the southern uses more hand techniques than anything else. A lot of people believe that it originated at the Fukein Temple.

Pai Lum Tao teaches that you have to train your mind as well as your body. It really makes sense. If you train your mind and not your body, your body is weak. When you get into a fight, you won't do so hot because you just can't physically do as well. If you train your body and not your mind, you'll behave a lot like animals; to animals, it's the survival of the fittest. If there's something that you need that someone else needs too, it's called competition. A lot of the time, competition can only be resolved by fighting. That's where survival of the fittest comes in. You fight your competitor for whatever it is that you both need, and the winner gets what is needed, leaving the loser either dead, dying, or at least without what it needed in the first place. But for completeness, you have to train your mind as well as your body. Then, you know when to use what skills and why, and when you do have to fight, you can fight to the max because you have your superior body.

Kung fu Texas-style...everything's bigger in Texas.
