Martial Arts Heavy Bag

A martial arts heavy bag is one of the most valuable pieces of equipment you can buy when it comes to your martial arts workouts, whether you're practicing karate or tae kwon do, or kickboxing, or any other contact moves.

Since you don't always have the option to practice on live targets or sparring partners, a heavy bag comes in handy so that you can work out at home or in your garage or at the gym without having to work with a partner.

Heavy bags are great for practicing all kinds of hits, elbow hits, kicks, and combination punching routines without a partner. Kicking is a big part of many martial art forms, including tae kwon do, kung fu, and karate, among others. Learning how to strike a heavy bag is sometimes the closest thing that many people get to hit a live target. Working out with a heavy bag can be extremely exhausting and is a great addition to any martial arts workout or basic conditioning routine while learning the technical and sometimes complicated moves involved in any martial arts form.

Many dojos and gyms are equipped with a heavy bag or other heavy bag equipment. Using such a bag can provide an intense and exhausting work out in less than ten or fifteen minutes. Many martial arts class instructors require their students to practice on a heavy bag to increase endurance and stamina. Don't resist using heavy bags; they're well worth the effort. Anything worth doing is worth doing right!

Whether you want to pretend that bag is your husband, or your wife, or even your favorite boss or co-worker, a heavy bag provides great exercise benefits. Watch the shoulders though, and use good form when striking or you'll be sorry.

Working out with a heavy bag enhances speed and power, as well as providing great target practice for well-placed hand strikes and foot strikes. When practicing for competition, a martial arts heavy bag can get you in tip-top shape and perfect your kicks and strikes without always having to wait for someone to spar with you. Many major sporting goods companies make heavy bags, and you can expect to pay anywhere from $70-$200 for an average martial arts heavy bag. However, doing so will be one of the best investments you make in martial arts equipment, no matter what your martial art form.
